Dementia Care Homes
Our care teams are leading specialists in Dementia care, this is because all of our staff in Surrey, Hampshire and Dorset are trained to understand dementia, the effects, symptoms and how to care for dementia patients. This includes our carers, nurses, cooks, domestic and maintenance team. With awareness and a strong skill-set our team are able to respond effectively the varying effects of dementia.
Treating our residents with dignity and respect is important at Beritaz Care, as we treat our residents how we would treat a loved one. In our warm environment we offer a secure home for those who can live more independently or a higher level of medical assistance care called nursing care, our range of care homes provide different services and levels of care.
What is Dementia?
Dementia is a broad term covering a range of conditions, including Alzheimer’s. Although it’s progressive, it doesn’t follow any set pattern, and it’s impossible to predict just how it will affect any one individual. It also has a wide range of highly variable symptoms, which can radically alter the person’s behaviour and ability to function: having ‘good’ and ‘bad’ days is something anyone with any experience of dementia will recognise. At present, there is no cure for dementia but we are aware of the latest developments in dementia research and care advances.
Meeting Our Patient’s Needs
Everyone with dementia is different and is affected in a different way. Our residential care homes helps with personal care and our care team are on duty 24/7 to abide to resident’s needs to improve quality of life. As part of this we want residents to stay as independent as possible, completing tasks big or small can help their condition. Our staff are always available to support residents when caring for themselves to help reduce stress or anxiety.
Our registered nurses have access to additional specialist nurses and work with the care home’s GP, psycho-geriatricians and Community Psychiatric Nurses to ensure our residents receive the best specialist care available. To comfort residents with dementia and Alzheimer’s we make life books to help residents remember the past, happy memories which can bring joy to their daily routine.
Dementia Care Plans
When a resident join a Beritaz care home we develop a dementia care plan. Working with residents and family members we cultivate a care plan that improves the well-being of our residents. With the additional guidance from a GP we are able to develop a thorough plan that can be altered over-time to accommodate to the resident’s needs. As dementia effects residents differently over-time, a resident may need a higher level of care, we will discuss this to you. We ensure that our residents are always cared for, emotionally and physically.
Working With You
Whilst your loved one is in our care and their situation progresses, we aim to help you during this difficult time. Our workshops help relatives to understand their loved one’s behaviour. We have found that talking to others who are going through the same experience can help you through this difficult time.
At Beritaz Care we believe that communication is incredibly important, this is why we will discuss with you your loved one’s progress to keep you aware of any changes, and this helps to give you peace of mind. We also have the facilities for relatives to stay overnight when required.
